Anti–corrosive siloxane coatings for improved long–term performance of supercapacitors with an aqueous electrolyte

This paper reports on the impact that corrosion of stainless steel current collectors has performance fade a symmetric, carbon/carbon electrochemical capacitor, operating with an aqueous electrolyte (1 M Na2SO4). The results obtained by applying ageing protocols (voltage–holding tests) confirm collector positive electrode undergoes tremendous degradation during 200 h in charged state. To prevent detrimental corrosion, hydrophobic siloxane coating been successfully applied. In case siloxane–protected are subjected to identical protocols, no significant deterioration capacitor was observed. reduces rate 316 L significantly, as potentiodynamic polarization tests and impedance spectroscopy show. presence is demonstrated water contact angle measurements, atomic force microscopy energy–dispersive X–ray analysis.
